HFs work well against a lot of the things you are going to be pumping special ammo into. While melta is popular, it’s expensive and has no synergy with the special ammo. Sternguard can take two, which I highly enjoy. You can field the TLHF dread, but besides the lack of model, you are paying a lot of points for a sluggish flame walker. You can run either double HF, or the classic MM/ HF tornado.ĭreads are frequently seen with them, but not at the expense of a real gun.

If you have enough AV fire elsewhere in your list, they have the speed to lay the template somewhere that needs to be on fire. LotD already ignore cover, so you pay a lot for something you already have. In terminator squads, they are outclassed by the other choices, but do cost peanuts and work OK with the stormbolters. They don’t cost a lot of points, so as you point out, the big expense is the opportunity cost of not taking something else. HFs remain the leading cause of death for my scouts. There are a lot of guys with a 4+ save cowering in cover, and the HF will erase them. The extra point of strength and more importantly AP value is huge. The 1-1/2" Blast circle will get cut off on some printers, so you may need to crop the image, or just use the 2" templates instead.Heavy flamers are a significant upgrade over regular flamers. The images should be US letter size 8.5x11, the tick marks along the edges are at 1" intervals. I also have XL templates for Inquisitor Titans as well as specialty templates (like D-Cannon and Plasma) if anyone is interested. The Knight Inferno circle is the same diameter as the end of the Hvy Flamer for Knight-size units vs. The Inferno Gun templates are for the Hellhound mechanic (Hvy Flamer + Artillery Die). I added Twin Hand Flamer for Seraphim and Twin Flamer for Chaos/Heresy/Pre-Heresy players. The double HF template is described in SoB Codex and originally published in White Dwarf. The various flame templates are the same dimensions as the originals, but I rounded the small end (like the newer plastic template) rather than using the original pointy end. If any are interested in color, let me know. These are simple B&W images for those with only limited printer capability. I stumbled upon this thread from a web search, and thought I would offer some files of 2nd Ed templates for those who need replacements or never had 2nd Ed.
